My Beef with Our School System Today

According to Statistics Canada, on average Canadians owe $1.79 for every $1 they make. As household debt is at an all-time high, I’m worried about the next generation and the lack of personal financial education.

I’m all for our kids learning about the periodic table and what the atomic weight of magnesium is – but let’s be real most people won’t end up using that knowledge on a day to day basis. We should also be teaching our kids about budgeting, how to improve their credit scores or how to save and invest properly yet sadly that still isn’t taught in schools.

While science and the arts are extremely important and part of the core curriculum, so too should personal finance and money management.
